Telephone headset problems and solutions

Problem: No sound out for speaker and microphone

Reason 1: The headset model is not compatible with the telephone.

Solution: Find your telephone’s brand and mode from the back of the telephone. Click at the compatible brand name on the left column of www.ovislink.com. Different headset models will show on the web page. Find your phone’s model under the headset images and click at the headset image will bring you to the headset model detail page. If it is not the one you purchased, contact support@ovislink.com to exchange to the correct headset model.

Reason 2: Didn’t use the headset correctly.

Solution: Connect the headset to the telephone’s headset jack directly. Press the headset button on the telephone’s keypad to get dial tone, answer a call and hang up a call. Do not pick up the hand receiver from the telephone hood. Some telephone models use speaker phone button as the headset button. Some telephone use soft button for headset, some have to program a headset key before you can use a headset. Refer to your telephone user manual for details. Problem: headset speaker works but microphone doesn’t.

Reason 1: The headset model is not compatible with the telephone.

Solution: Find your telephone’s brand and mode from the back of the telephone. Click at the compatible brand name on the left column of www.ovislink.com. Different headset models will show on the web page. Find your phone’s model under the headset images and click at the headset image will bring you to the headset model detail page. If it is not the one you purchased, contact support@ovislink.com to exchange to the correct headset model.

Reason 2: If the headset is connected to the telephone with 2.5mm headset jack, the 2.5mm connect doesn’t all the way into the headset jack.

Solution: Push the 2.5mm connector hard to the phone’s headset jack until hear two click sounds


Problem: hear statics or noise from the headset.

Reason 1: The headset model is not compatible with the telephone.

Solution: Find your telephone’s brand and mode from the back of the telephone. Click at the compatible brand name on the left column of www.ovislink.com. Different headset models will show on the web page. Find your phone’s model under the headset images and click at the headset image will bring you to the headset model detail page. Reason 2: May be broken wire inside the headset.

Solution: Get the headset serial number from the headset cord and email to support@ovislink.com


Problem: hear echo from when use headset with Polycom phones.

Reason: echo canceling function is not turned on.

Solution: To enable the echo cancelling function on Polycom phone:

  1. Press the Menu button on the phone.
  2. Go to Settings.
  3. Go to Basic.
  4. Select Preferences.
  5. Select Headset.
  6. Select Echo Cancellation.
  7. Select Enable.
  8. Once enabled, press the left arrow key to go back to the home menu.

How to choose between single ear and dual ear headset?
OvisLink makes single ear and dual ear headsets for each of the telephone brands and models. The single ear headsets (monaural) are an ideal solution for people who need to communicate with nearby colleagues while maintaining their headset conversation. Monaural headsets are almost always lighter that binaural headsets. The dual ear headsets (binaural) consist of a pair of earpieces and a microphone. How do I know if my headset model is compatible with my phone?
On the left column of www.ovislink.com click the name of telephone’s brand, a new page will open for that particular brand providing the brand’s models. After selecting a model, the headset models compatible with the telephone will appear. There are single ear and dual ear headsets that have telephone models listed below. How to set up telephone headset?
No setup needed. Simply connect headset jack onto the headset port on the phone. After the headset is connected to the phone, the user should press the headset key in order to hear a dial tone from the headset’s speakers. If no headset key is available, the user might have to program a headset soft key or use the speaker button on the phone based on telephone’s user guide.

How to connect telephone headset?
OvisLink headsets are designed to connect directly to the telephone’s headset jack. Make sure to buy the compatible headset model for your phone (see compatible list), the headset will come with a connector that fit with your phone’s headset jack. Plug the connector into your phone’s headset jack.

How to use telephone headset?
OvisLink call center headsets are simple to install and use. They connect directly to a desktop phone and do not require the use of an amplifier. Connect to the phone’s headset jack directly, then press the headset button on the phone to hear a dial tone through the speaker. To make a call press the headset button, to disconnect a call also press headset button. Location of headset button varies depending on brands and models, some have the headset button printed on the telephone’s keypad, others need to be programmed using a programmable key, and in other cases the use of the “speaker” key serves as a headset button.

How to wear telephone headset?
For single ear headsets adjust the length of the headband and turn the earpiece slightly until the headset fits comfortably and position the T-bar above your ear. Rotate the microphone boom to put the microphone in front of the mouth. Lastly attach the clothing clip at a comfortable level to keep the headset properly positioned and free from the cord’s weight.
Dual ear headsets do not have a T-bar; in this case adjust both ear pieces slightly until headset fits comfortably.

How to take care a telephone headset?
Clean your headsets on a regular basis. Take care of the cords; do not use the cord to wrap the headset. When disconnecting the quick disconnect cord from the headset, hold the flat spot of the connector, and pull straight out without wiggling the connector. Do not wiggle the joints of the cord and never pull on the cord to remove it from the device. Only remove the device directly at the adapter, or the cord might break off from the adapter and the interior wires will fray. The microphone boom is manageable. You may adjust it to position the microphone to the desired spot, but do not pull the microphone boom.

How does a headset training adapter work?
The OvisLink headset training adapter is for call center training purposes. It connects two headsets to the same phone. There is a mute button for each of the headsets. The trainer and trainee can both hear and talk on the same call. The trainer may mute at any time either one or both headsets the headsets.

How to use a training adapter?
No software is necessary to use the OvisLink training adapter. Simply set the T-adapter switch to the “1” position, and then connect one end of RJ9 small cord onto the TEL port on the adapter and the other RJ9 end to the phone. Connect both headphones to the ports labeled as A and B. Press the A button to mute the headset plugged into the A port, and press B to mute the B headset. How to use a telephone headset on computer?
Headsets with RJ9, RJ45 and 2.5mm jacks cannot connect directly to a computer. Do I need a lifter to use with headset?

RJ9 is a registered modular 4P4C connector that comes on telephone handsets and headsets. It looks like a regular telephone line connector but only smaller. The regular telephone line connector is RJ11 and can sometimes be confused with RJ9.

What is 2.5mm headset jack?
A small round pin connector with 2.5mm diameter and 3 conductor or 2 black rings which is commonly used for home office phones.

What is 3.5mm headset jack?
The 3.5mm headset jack is a small round pin connector with 3.5mm diameter and 4 conductors or 3 black rings to connect to 3.5mm headset jack which now is more commonly used with smart phones.

What is a quick disconnect cord?
Quick Disconnect cords are lower part on the long cord of OvisLink call center headsets. It connects to the same type of connector on the headset. The connection can be disconnected and reconnected during a telephone call without dropping the call.

Quick disconnect function gives users the convenience easily detach the headset from the phone, walk away and return to the call without hang up the call or put the call on hold. It also gives users the option to use the headset with different telephone brands and computers using different quick disconnect cords that are available for purchase on www.ovislink.com. What is a telephone headset with volume control (do I need to have a telephone headset with volume control)?
The volume control feature on the headset allows customers to adjust the speaker volume of the headset on the headset cord. The volume buttons on the telephone also control the headset’s speakers. Volume control function on the headset cord is just an option.

What is a telephone headset with mute function (do I need to have a telephone headset with mute function)?
The mute function cancels out sound on the headset’s microphone. If a client is on a call he/she can mute the headset’s microphone for any reason by pressing the mute button on OvisLink headset models OVHS072-V25, OVHS084-V25, OVHS072-USB and OVHS084-USB. There is always a mute button on the telephone’s keypad which does the same thing. The mute button on the headset cord is only an option.

What is a headset training adapter?
A training adapter allows users connect 2 headsets to one phone for training purposes. Both headsets’ speakers and microphone can work at the same time. There are two mute buttons for the headsets connected to the adapter. The trainer may decide to mute any connected headset by pressing the coordinated mute button.

What is a dial pad telephone?
A dial pad is a complete phone that doesn’t include a handset but uses a headset instead and connects to regular phone line or VoIP adapter. It’s usually used in call center settings.

What is an IP phone headset?
IP phone headsets are headsets that are compatible with IP phones. There’s no difference between an IP headset and telephone headset. The most important thing is that the headset must be compatible with the telephone.

What headset should I choose for my desk phone?
